Green Homes Grant Scheme

Homeowners and residential landlords can apply for vouchers worth up to £5,000 or £10,000 towards the cost of installing energy efficient improvements to their homes. These improvements could include insulating your home to reduce your energy usage or installing low-carbon heating to lower the amount of carbon dioxide your home produces.

You must redeem the voucher and ensure improvements are completed by 31 March 2022.

The £2 billion grant pot available will pay up to £5,000 to cover two-thirds of your upgrade costs or £10,000 for the full works for qualifying families.

The scheme divides each energy efficiency measure into ‘primary’ and ‘secondary’ categories and to qualify for secondary measure funding you must first fit at least one primary measure. Also, any secondary measure funding cannot be more than that received towards the primary measure.

Primary measures include insulation, such as solid-wall or loft insulation, and low carbon heat, such as thermal solar or air source heat pumps.

Secondary measures include windows and doors or heating controls.

Almost any homeowner and private or social landlord (but not their tenants) in England can apply for the grant scheme. Take the survey on the government funded Simple Energy Advice (SEA) website to check what improvements can be made and what they typically cost. Tenants can use the same tool to download a report on their rental property and ask their landlord for upgrades.

The funding will cover labour, materials, and VAT costs.

Work must be completed by a TrustMark registered installer for each part of the scheme. Visit the TrustMark website to find local installers near you.
