Ground Source Heat Pump Installation
Ground source heat pump systems are growing in popularity as a tried and tested method of lowering a property’s carbon footprint and heating bills.
Ground source heat pumps are installed underground and loop-connected to your existing heating system to heat radiators, underfloor heating, and hot water. Being one of the most eco-friendly heating methods a ground source heat pump system has the ability to produce up to four units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed and, being powered largely by the naturally occurring heat in the ground beneath your home, a ground source heat pump system offers the lowest running costs of any heating system.
Benefits
- Could lower fuel bills
- Could provide an income through the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
- Could lower carbon emissions
- No future fuel deliveries are required
- Will heat your home and hot water
- Minimal maintenance required
What to Consider?
- Space – The garden will need to be suitable for a trench or borehole and have access for digging machinery
- Insulation – Heat pumps work best when producing heat at a lower temperature so it is important your home is well-insulated and draught-proof to prevent heat loss
- Costs – A heat pump will pay for itself if replacing an existing expensive system but running costs will vary depending on the size of the home and installation costs are expensive
- Planning – There is a lot of labour and planning required so combining the installation with other building works could significantly reduce installation costs
